Closure of Newbury Road (Great Shefford to East Garston)

Today Fri 3rd Jul 2026

Route 4 will have a diversion in place from Monday 6 July between Great Shefford and Lambourn due to Newbury Road being closed for works. Buses will be unable to run between Great Shefford and East Garston. The work is being organised by Thames Water and is expected to take around six weeks.

During this period there will be a shuttle bus running between East Garston and Lambourn to connect customers to the normal service bus.

Diversion route

Both route 4 and 4C will run from Newbury to the Swan in Great Shefford (the 4C will only run to the Swan towards Newbury, not towards Lambourn) before turning around and using the 4A route to Lambourn via Hungerford Hill and the B4000 (Ermin St)

Lambourn/East Garston Shuttle

The 4X will be the shuttle between Lambourn and East Garston. Drivers of the service bus will wait for the shuttle to connect so you shouldn't have any issues getting on to the route 4 or 4C buses.
